Dental Crowns Spokane, WA
Dental crowns can be used to support and enhance the look of your teeth. They can be used to cosmetically elevate a tooth or to provide additional strength when weakened or damaged. Protecting your natural teeth, when possible, through prevention or restoration is best for your oral health. At Smile More Spokane Family Dentistry, we can customize a crown to fit your bite and restore the strength and structure of your tooth.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A dental crown is a tooth shaped cap that can be made from a variety of materials depending on the location and factors that are important to the patient. Crowns are customized to match the patient's bite and blend in flawlessly with your mouth. Crowns can be used to cosmetically correct a tooth, or to rebuild a damaged tooth.
Cosmetic Enhancement with Dental Crowns
We can cover teeth that are misshapen, discolored, gapped or otherwise unattractive with a customized dental crown. We can even place crowns on all of your most visible teeth to make them look even, straight and perfected without the need for braces. We can use full crowns or dental veneers to give you a beautiful smile. Improving the look of your smile can make a dramatic change to your entire face. A perfect smile can vastly improve a professional look.
Restoring The Tooth Structure with Dental Crowns A dental crown can serve as a shield for your tooth, a suit of armor, providing a strong layer of protection. Teeth can become damaged or weakened in a number of ways including large cavities from decay, following root canal therapy, fracture from an impact injury, cracks or patients who suffer from bruxism.
Crown Material Options
Crowns come in a variety of materials. We will review these options with you, there are pros and cons that come with each and it can depend on where the tooth is located to decide. Materials include:
• |
Porcelain: We use porcelain crowns for front teeth. They visually look very similar to your own natural teeth. They are not generally used for back teeth because they can be subject to breakage.
|
• |
Porcelain over Metal: To reduce the incidence of breakage, we have porcelain crowns that are metal inside. They can be used anywhere in the mouth. There can be small areas that metal can be exposed.
|
• |
Ceramic including Zirconium: Ceramic crowns are created from a small block in a milling machine. They provide a strong replacement tooth that is shaded to blend in perfectly with your teeth. Ceramic is a strong material that some patients can find uncomfortable because they are more firm than your natural teeth.
|
• |
Gold: We often recommend gold crowns for back molar crowns. They feel very similar to our natural teeth, but their dark gold coloring makes them difficult to conceal in your mouth. |
