We hope you are feeling well following your visit with us today! To ensure proper healing after your restorative root canal procedure, we do have a few recommended aftercare instructions we’d like to recommend. It's normal to experience some discomfort for several days following a root canal appointment, especially when chewing. To control discomfort, take pain medication as recommended. If discomfort persists after 48 hours, fill the Decadron prescription that was sent home with you.
If you were prescribed antibiotics, please continue to take them as directed, even if all symptoms and signs of infection have resolved.
Anesthesia should wear off approximately 2-4 hours following your procedure, unless you opted for numbing reversal, in which case the numbing effects should subside much sooner. In the meantime, it's important to avoid chewing on the numb side of your mouth to prevent biting your tongue, cheek, or lip. Warm saltwater rinses several times a day can aid in the healing of the gums.
Usually, the last step after root canal treatment is the placement of a dental crown on the tooth. A dental crown covers and protects the tooth from breaking in the future. If your bite feels uneven, if you have persistent swelling or pain, or if you have any other questions or concerns, please call our office at (509) 468-4040.
